Wendy y. Alas

I am a photographer living in Chicago.
And this is personal, kind of.

“When you start to know someone, all their physical characteristics start to disappear. You begin to dwell in their energy, recognize the scent of their skin. You see only the essence of the person, not the shell. That’s why you can’t fall in love with beauty. You can lust after it, be infatuated by it, want to own it. You can love it with your eyes and your body but not your heart. And that’s why, when you really connect with a person’s inner self, any physical imperfections disappear, become irrelevant.”

#tbt this is my father, Emilio Alas. He lives in Guatemala. I don’t talk to my dad everyday, nor every week. We were never super close, and but in the past year and a half, I decided to ask him to forgive me, and forgive him for not being the father I desperately wanted and needed. Nevertheless, I’m glad that him and I are in good terms now. This past week and a half I’ve learned that life is too short to hold grudges. Our time here is limited and I can only hope to love my family well, despite all the craziness of life. #father #mypops #misshim #dad #guatemala #farm #portrait #throwback
